Zebra Mussels

Zebra Mussels are not a problem in Massachusetts...yet! This invasive organism is now considered a problem at Lake Champlain so it will soon be our problem if we are not careful. There are some procedures you can follow to help prevent this organism from spreading...

· Remove any visible aquatic vegetation from your boat, propeller, anchor, lines and trailer when leaving other lakes.
· Do not release any unused live bait into  waters.
· Allow your boat to dry for at least two days before moving from one lake to another or wash down the hull with soap and tap water before launching again.
· Flush your engine cooling system, bilge areas and live bait wells with tap
water.

Squashing a rumor:  zebra mussels and Lake Manchaug. There is no evidence of zebra mussels in the lake and there has never been an employee of the Mass Fish and Game who has spoken to a group about a problem with this lake. Looks like another excuse to ban tournament fishing!

ESPN purchases B.A.S.S.

Earlier this year, ESPN purchased the business and assets of B.A.S.S., Inc., the largest fishing organization in the world with more than 600,000 members and, like ESPN, a leader in a variety of businesses and media.  These include magazine publishing, event management, merchandising, television, distribution and the Internet.

ESPN2 televises outdoor programming – ESPN Outdoors - every Saturday and Sunday morning, as well as on weekday afternoons.  Programming includes the 18-show BASSMASTER Tournament Trail and BASS Masters Classic, as well as 13 half-hour programs from the World Championship Fishing circuit, which isanctioned by B.A.S.S and which combines fishing and boat racing. B.A.S.S.’s many initiatives include CastingKids, which encourages youth participation in fishing, and numerous environmental and conservation efforts.
