The Casting Kids competition held at Marine USA
Inc. in Worcester on Saturday, March 2nd, had a great turn
out. The Casting Kids event
took place amongst the Annual Fishing Expo.
The Charles River club hosted the event and got an opportunity to
teach quite a few kids how to cast, pitch and flip.
They had a steady flow of about thirty children, including both
boys and girls between the ages of seven and fourteen.
The club was a tremendous help in setting up the competition
area, taking registrations, teaching the children to cast and keeping
score. To sum it all up, I’ll quote one boy who says: “This is
the best thing ever. It’s
so much fun.” This was
quite obvious as you watch a seven-year old girl cheer on her sister who
was casting. In the 7-10
age group, the winner was Ciaran Nugent with a score of 60; while James
Bartell was the winner in the 11-14 age group with a score of 130.
Winners received a rod, practice target, an autographed poster,
medallion and even had their pictures taken with the 2001 Bass Masters
Classic champ, Kevin Van Dam.
